Riga is the financial, creative, and cultural centre of Latvia famous for Art Nouveau and wooden architecture. It has a very lively nightlife centred around the Old Town and is developing a reputation as the backpacking party centre of the Baltics.
Tallinn is a fantastic city for backpackers. It is small enough to be easily navigable on foot, cheap, and with plenty to see and do. The medieval old town is one of the best in Europe. A great starting point for any trip through the Baltic states.
Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland. It is also the world’s northernmost metro area of over one million people. Helsinki regularly features towards the top of the ‘world’s most liveable city’ list, coming at no. 10 on this 2015 ranking.
Many travellers make the assumption that Iran is not a safe place to travel to, that it is unstable and unfriendly. This is absolutely not the case. The tourism industry in Iran is still emerging and mainstream tourists are not flocking to Iran just yet. But there is a strong backpacking travel community and while most of what I write on BackpackerTrack.com is aimed at the budget backpacker, this itinerary should be ideal for all travellers.
